Angels and ministers of grace defend us!
It comes again! -- Shakesp. Hamlet.
Phoebus's answer to the printer's address of 4 lines to him,
in 1726.
(Sent by a lady, who was the author of the last Rebus, &c.)
Good Mr. Printer, consider its winter,
When women, coop'd up in their houses,
Have nought to amuse, but reading your news,
Or having it read by their spouses.
When politicks deep, oft put 'em asleep,
But when you have something diverting.--
A Rebus or Blunder,* they'll seize it like plunder,
And say, "it was worth your inserting."
Then cease your complaint, or I'll not be your saint,
But leave you to Goblins and Ghosts,
The sex I'll inspire, with poetic fire,
And when I drink, they are my toasts.
